2D-prints and tactile images
3D prints are great, but
- it is not easy to make - or find - a good model (for tactile exploration)
- it takes long to print them
It is quicker and easier to make tactile images. Tactile drawing is a super addition or substitute.
Addition
A well made tactile image - or even a quick tactile sketch
- can help explore complex 3D-prints/maps/….
- may do in many cases (for ‘finetuning’/specifying when someone already has a basic mental representation)
Substitution
A well made tactile image - or even a quick tactile sketch will do, if:
- a reader knows the 2D to 3D method
- the object is not too complex
3D-models (reality/prints) are indispensable
- in the learning phase or
- when objects are very complex
